Our History

Supporting Farmers Since 1924

Reaching a monumental milestone like a 100-year anniversary is a moment of profound reflection and celebration. As we look back on the journey of our business, it’s a story intertwined with hard work, community and the strong bonds that have kept us thriving through generations.

It all started with Len Evans, who began the firm with a vision: providing essential items for farmers on market day. Riding his bicycle back and forth, he delivered parts and provided maintenance services to local farms. Lens’ dedication laid the foundation for a business that would evolve over the decades.

As the years progressed, his son, Eddie Evans, joined the firm, marking the beginning of a remarkable legacy. Soon after, Martin Evans, Ted Jones, Alun Jones, Ken Carter and Brian Harris, became integral parts of L Evans. This collaborative effort not only diversified the skills within the firm but also solidified its’ identity as a business dedicated to serving the agricultural community.

The 1975 entry of Trevor Jones, now Managing Director, marked a pivotal moment in the companies history. Under his leadership, significant milestones were achieved, such as becoming a Dealer for Grimme in late 1980’s. The company began to thrive and between 1988 and 2006, there were record sales that positioned us as the largest Grimme dealer – not just in the UK, but throughout Europe. Selling an impressive 26 harvesters in one year.

In 2006, we expanded our portfolio by taking on Case IH, followed by Bailey Trailers in 2007. These alliances allowed us to provide even better support to farmers, consolidating our reputation as a reliable partner in the agricultural industry. In 2023 we took on a selection of franchises from Agrimec, now we are able to support apple growers and other soft fruit harvesting growers across the midlands.

As we look forward to 2025 and beyond, our focus remains firmly on growth and support for the farming community. We are dedicated to adapting to changing needs while maintaining our family values. Our mission is clear: to continue evolving, innovating and nurturing relationships with farmers in our region. This remarkable century-long journey is a reflection of our dedication and unyielding support for those who feed our communities. Thank you to all the farmers, manufactures and suppliers for being part of our journey and making L Evans & Son what we are today.
